THE LIGHTFOOT WAY’S MISSION & PHILOSOPHY
Since 2006, our mission is to empower people through animals to change their lives on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level with holistic animal care. We want to help animal professionals and pet parents learn how holistic animal care can help animals to live their best lives possible. Our goal is to make learning fun and simple and available to everyone in the world.
We help animals achieve happier, healthier, and longer lives. Holistic care is a wonderful complement to traditional health care. By taking a natural approach, animals are cared for as a whole – body, mind and spirit. Through our newsletter, Animal Heart & Soul Learning Center, Animal Heart and Soul Communication Community, educational and mentoring opportunities, professional certification programs, consultations and products, you will gain the support and knowledge you need to change your life and those of the animals you care for.
In a nutshell, whether you are an animal professional or pet parent, we help you to strengthen your connection, prevent illness and disease and heal the animals in your care.
MEET KIM SHOTOLA, FOUNDER & DIRECTOR OF THE LIGHTFOOT WAY
Working with Animals
Kim worked with animals at the Houston Zoo in Texas from 1991-2017. She progressed from zookeeper to Sr. Supervisor during her 25+ year career. During her tenure at the zoo, she helped manage the care of over 1,000 domestic, livestock, wildlife, and exotic animals in the Children’s Zoo, including the amazing bug house. She helped develop and manage the zoo’s safety committee for seven years. Kim helped bring holistic animal care to the Houston Zoo with her knowledge and skills. She even arranged for her holistic vets to do acupuncture, chiropractic, laser therapy and more on the zoo animals and this is still going on today. She recently moved from outside Houston, TX to Livingston, MT, to pursue her dream of living and teaching near Yellowstone. Her world into holistic animal care started over 20 years ago when she discovered joint supplements for her horse, Tara, featured in the photo.
Kim worked for 6 months with Dr. Marcia DuBois Martin, a holistic veterinarian in Houston, until Dr. Martin relocated out of state. She started teaching her first animal communication and holistic animal care classes at Dr. Martin’s clinic in 2006. Since then, she has taught hundreds of students from all over the world, empowering them to make a difference in their lives.
Kim studied animal communication with professional animal communicators Diane Samsel, Kathleen Berard, and Leta Worthington, as well as with Philip Toledo, a Tibetan shaman energy healer. She is an internationally known professional animal communicator and teacher. She is listed in Penelope Smith’s animal communication directory.
She received training as a reiki master/teacher (RMT) and studied with Angeni Brandow. She studied the newer energy, New Paradigm Multidimensional Transformation (formerly Shamballa), with Nedda Wittels. She taught reiki and then Multidimensional Transformation for years. More recently, Kim was guided by the animals and St. Francis of Assisi to create a new form of energy work that the animals wanted people to learn, called Sacred Animal Spirit Alchemy (SASA.) Listening to the animals’ guidance, we now only teach SASA.
Kim attended the certified intuitive angel guide and advanced angel courses taught by Kathleen Elmore, CSC, who studied with Doreen Virtue. In furthering her work with angels and ascended masters, she studied sound current healing with Sasha Gabriel White. While the sound current healing methods did not resonate with her, she embraced her closer connection with the angels.
She received her equine massage practitioner certification (CEMP) from the Western Montana School of Equine Massage and her canine massage practitioner training from Companion Animal Massage in Texas.
Kim studied the incredible Medicine Pony work with the amazing Janice Terra, the Lady Horse Whisperer, who has helped to heal so many people and horses in her profound way.
In pursuit of better care and knowledge of her horses’ hooves, she studied natural hoof care with Martha Olivo, one of the top barefoot hoof trimmers and educators in the world, and became a certified hoof groom. She has trimmed her own horses’ hooves.
Kim studied Akashic Records with Nancy Kern.
She attended the certified herbalist course taught by Donna Fry, ND (naturopathic doctor) which focused on herbs and aromatherapy. She has taken additional courses in aromatherapy including spiritual aromatherapy with Gritman Essential Oils.
Kim also studied Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) with Helen Racz, a professional EFT practitioner.
She is a certified Tai Chi Easy practice leader with Henderson Smith and Dr. Roger Jahnke.
Kim believes animals are windows to our souls and doorways to our spiritual destinies. If you will let them into your life and allow them to teach you, you will be better for it.
May we all tread lightly, respect all living beings, and care for animals, heart and soul.
All that we send into the life of others comes back into our own.
The Lightfoot Way has a special meaning for Kim. She is drawn to the Native American culture and feels everyone should tread lightly on Mother Earth and have respect for all living creatures. When we give to others, we are truly blessed.
Kim derives personal inspiration in her work from her connection with St. Francis. She says, “I feel blessed to have St. Francis as my spirit guide. He came to me in a meditation I was doing about animal communication. He helps me communicate with the animals. Of course, he’s the patron saint of animals and his presence in my work is very special to me.” Angels are also very important to Kim and help her in her teaching.
Blessings to you and the animals you love.
MEET ALLISON CULVER, ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
Working with Animals
Allison has had animals all her life and after losing cats to a common disease, she sought natural methods that could improve the lives of her animals. Her strong desire to get back to nature led her on the path of nutrition and holistic techniques, including the wonderful innate energy that keeps the positive flow soaring and reaches her heart and soul! Allison grew up going to her grandparent’s Black Angus farm in Virginia where the highlight was nursing a newborn calf to bullhood that was so gentle she could even ride him. She currently shares her life with two dogs and a cat, all adopted.
Allison served on the Board of Directors for HOPE (Homeless and Orphaned Pet Endeavor) as the Volunteer Director and helped to socialize and work with the foster dogs. She provided weekly care to HOPE cats that lived at Petco while they were waiting for a loving home. She has been involved in the coalition for the No Kill Houston organization to make animal shelters a safe haven for all animals without the fear of euthanasia.
Allison has studied with Kim and is a holistic care instructor and consultant. It brings her great joy to be able to educate and assist people and animals. It is important to her for people to realize that everyone can do everything we teach!
She has taken acupressure courses for small animals with the Tallgrass Institute.
Allison studies canine freestyle (dancing with your dog) with Emily Pyle and is a member of the Musical Dog Sport Association. Since 2007, Allison has performed with her dog Bob at many demos at nursing homes, grand openings, parties and events including the Houston Reliant Dog Show, and was featured in the Houston Pet Talk magazine and TV spots.
She studies canine scent work with Emily Pyle and is a member of the National Association of Canine Scent Work. Her dog Petey has achieved his first title in nose work and has participated in an important trial study with the Navy.
She attended various aromatherapy courses with Gritman Oils and taught animal aromatherapy classes there.
Allison studied Medicine Pony work with Janice Terra, the lady horse whisperer.
She studied Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) with Helen Racz, a professional EFT practitioner.
Allison studied Akashic Records with Nancy Kern.
She studied sound current healing with Sasha Gabriel White.
Allison truly believes the animals we have in our lives have come to us to help us along our spiritual path. If it were not for her dog, Bob, she would never have found Kim who is her inspiration and light, and would not have realized this journey down her new holistic path and passion that has become a way of life for her and her family. In her heart she believes that Bob led her to this beautiful path of connecting to the animal world and embracing Mother Earth.
Trust yourself and trust the process!
My joy is to teach others how to connect and communicate with our animal world. To see them awaken and realize that they can do this; that they are talking to animals and that the animals are talking back just brings me to tears of happiness. Our mission is to help people all over the world learn this amazing ability and how to naturally care for animals in their care on all levels – emotional, physical and spiritual.
From my heart to your soul may you gain what your animals have to teach you.
