March is poison prevention month.  The truth is, many pet parents and animal lovers do not realize all of the ways that poisons can be in and around their home, including in the pet, household and lawn products they use.

Sadly, did you hear about a popular flea collar that’s been linked to almost 1,700 animal deaths?  Click here for the USA Today story.

Take a close look at your environment for your animals and yourself.  Many products contain harmful chemicals that can have serious consequences such as:

  • Your city or tap water can contain chemicals and toxins like chlorine, fluoride, arsenic, aluminum, copper, lead, mercury, nitrates, perchlorate, dioxins, PCB’s (polychlorinated biphenyls), herbicides and pesticides.  This water can cause all kinds of health issues for your animals and you.  It is better to opt for purified, spring, filtered or good quality well water. If you are considering bottled water, because of the danger that chemicals can leach from bottles into water, not to mention the environmental harm that bottles create, a water filtration system of some kind is ideal. You can look into a countertop filter, a faucet mount, an under the sink system, a water pitcher or even a water bottle with a filter.  At Environmental Working Group (EWG), you can look up information on your tap water here. EWG even has a water filter buying guide you can look at here.
  • Household products, including cleaners, fresheners, deodorizers, plug ins, detergents, cleansers, dryer sheets, and even soap. We try to avoid ingredients such as Ammonia, Bisphenol A (BPA), Chlorine, Formaldehyde, Phthalates, Perchloroethylene (PERC), Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs), Per or polyfluoroalkyl (PFAs), Quarternary Ammonium Compounds (QUATS), Sodium Hydroxide, Triclosan and 2-Butoxyethanol.  Even essential oils can be dangerous and they have harmed and killed animals.  Click here for an article on this.  You can check out EWG’s home guides here.
  • Lawn and garden products, like fertilizers, weed killers, herbicides and pesticides. We do our best to stay away from pest and lawn chemicals like 2, 4-D, Atrazine, Carbofuran, Coumaphos, Cyothioate, Diazinon, Fampfhur, Fention, Metaldehyde, Methomyl, Organotins, Phosmet and Tetrachloryinphos.
  • Remove toxins you use on your animals and yourself, such as those in shampoos, topicals, bedding, litter, toys, and flea and tick control. We try not to use products that contain ingredients such as Benzoate, Blue 1, Cocamidopropyl Betane, Cocamide Diethanolamine (DEA), Dimethicone, DMDM Hydantoin, FC&C Color Pigments, Fragrance, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Methylisothiazolinone, Parabens, Perfluorochemicals (PFCs), Phthalates, Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDEs), Propylene/Polyethylene/Butylene Glycol, Pyrethrins, Pyrethroids, Red 33, Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Momoethanolamine (MEA), Sodium Xylene Sulfonate, Tetrasodium EDTA and Triethanolamine (TEA.)
  • Only get vaccines that are absolutely necessary, and consider getting titers when possible.  Titers are bloodwork drawn that can show that the vaccines are still effective in your animal’s body.  Over-vaccination and the vaccination of animals whose immune systems are compromised are causes of many health issues.  Unfortunately, some animals end up losing their life.
  • Look at ingredients carefully on the labels of all products. Just because something says “natural” doesn’t mean it’s chemical free or won’t harm. If the products you use contain chemicals, consider natural alternatives. You can even make your own pet-safe products for your home and animals.

Ty and Charlene Bollinger are doing their free 7 episode docu-series, The Truth About PET Cancer.  Click here to Watch FREE – The Truth About PET Cancer   Most of those interviewed are holistic veterinarians.  We’ve purchased this series as it’s so amazing and talks about hidden toxins, including in vaccinations.  It’s truly an eye-opening docu-series.

Any steps you can take towards preventing poisons from harming your beloved animals or yourself are well worth taking.  Your animals will greatly appreciate it.

Animal Wellness Blessings!
