Animals have a curious mind and love to get into mischief that can cause harm, injury or death with new or “shiny” things around the house during this holiday season.

When the New Year rolls around, many animals have a fear of loud noises such as fireworks, thunder, gun shots, etc. AND this causes many animals to escape from their yards and homes.

On this Christmas day that brings joy, laughter and love, we wanted to remind you of these timely tips to help keep all of your animals from harm’s way through to the New Year.

  • Keep the Christmas Tree Secure so it can’t fall on animals or people. If you have a live tree, make sure the water is covered so your animals can’t drink it and make them sick.
  • Be Mindful of Decorations and Accessories that can be detrimental to animals such as wires, batteries, glass ornaments, tinsel, string, scissors, etc. Keep them out of paw’s reach so they don’t cause severe issues like obstruction and possible surgery.
  • Avoid Holiday Food Dangers. No chocolate, cooked bones, fatty food, or booze and ease up on the treats that have sugar, fructose or syrups. It’s best to also not have toxic plants in your home that animals may chew on like holly, mistletoe and poinsettias.
  • Holiday House Full of People – Make sure all medications are out of reach and make sure animals have a room or place of their own with a snuggly bed or pillow and fresh water to retreat to if things get a little crazy.
  • Watch Sidewalk Salt as it can irritate paws and make your animal sick if they ingest it. While you can use a pet-safe product on your own sidewalk, be aware of what others may be using.

Holistic Animal Care Tips (HAC) to Keep the Peace and Joy…

  • Color Therapy: The color light blue can be calming. Offer your animal a towel, sheet or blanket to lay on or near. It’s not about the color they see, but the energy the color gives off.
  • Supplements: CBD oil, ashwagandha, GABA and bee pollen are some supplements that may help relax your animal and relieve their fears.
  • Flower Essences: Mimulus, Rock Rose or Rescue Remedy are essences that may help your animal with these fears. Flower essences are best given orally and are based on frequency, not the amount of drops you are giving them. Your animal may benefit from a custom Bach flower essence blend that is created just for them by muscle testing.
  • Aromatherapy: Sweet Basil, Bergamot, Lavender, Green Mandarin and Ylang-Ylang are some essential oils that can help animals with fear and anxiety. The easiest and safest way to offer aromatherapy is to open the bottle and let your animal smell it if they choose to.
  • Homeopathy: Some homeopathic remedies that may help with loud noises are Aconite, Borax, Geisemium, and Phosphorus. Veratrum alb. 30C potency is the most commonly used for animals. Muscle test to find the right remedy along with the proper frequency.
  • Sound Therapy: Some animals become very calm with certain musicWholetonesCalming & Soothing Music for Dogsby Michael Tyrrell is music at 396 Hz which is a different frequency than most music and seems to appeal to animals.
  • Body Wrapping: The Thunder Shirt or similar type works on some animals, but for others it can be too constricting. The bandage body wrap works for many animals because it touches on calming acupressure points and is not as restraining. Click here to see this article from Whole Dog Journal about how to do body wrapping.

Hopefully, these tips will help you to help your animal remain as calm as possible during loud noises. You can check out products we recommend here.

As there are many HAC options, keep in mind that muscle testing shows you what methods will help your animal the best. For instance, if homeopathy muscle tests strong for your animal, then you will muscle test which homeopathic remedy is best so that you are utilizing your time and money wisely and most importantly, helping your animal. You can learn more about muscle testing here.

May you have a very Merry Christmas and a safe New Years and wonderful 2022!

Holiday Blessings!
